Akwa Ibom State Association is a 501C(3) non-profit organization with the following sets of objectives:

• To promote, encourage and foster unity among the citizen of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria both at home and abroad.
• To promote economic, educational, cultural, scientific and social progress of Akwa Ibom State within the framework of one Nigeria.
• To cooperate with and support bona-fide Nigerian Associations in the United States of America and encourage members of the Association to join Nigerian Associations and participate in promoting the interest of Nigeria both at home and abroad.
• To encourage and support the educational, professional and legitimate business aspirations of all Akwa Ibom State citizens, provided those aspirations are consistent with the best interest of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria and its citizens.
• To act as a liaison between our government, and others, including other organizations both government and non-governmental, and the members of this Association and citizens of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria in the United States of America.
• To support and promote various charitable organizations by cooperating with any such organization, participating in its activities or contributing to such an organization.

  Michael A. Essien is a Partner at Fondungallah Kigham & Essien, LLC practicing intellectual property law with a focus on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and e-commerce. Mr. Essien worked as an intellectual property attorney at a Minneapolis law firm, and at 3M Office of Intellectual Property Counsel. Mr. Essien is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patents and Trademark Office His trademark practice includes prosecution, enforcement, domain name disputes and resolution (UDRP), and registrations under the Madrid Protocol.

  Mr. Essien is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota, and is a member of Ramsey County Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association and the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers. He has co-chaired the MIPLA’s Intellectual Property Law Revision & PTO Committee. He frequently speaks on Intellectual Property Law and Organizational Leadership.

  Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Essien worked for several years as a quality, process and new product development engineer at 3M. He is a named inventor on two issued US patents. He has extensive experience in adhesives, microprismatic and retroreflective film technology for the transportation safety industry, and process engineering.

  Mr. Essien received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. His J.D. is from William Mitchell College of Law where he was a member of the Law Review. Mr. Essien was the recipient of the William Mitchell Alumni Association Student Award of Merit for exceptional contributions to the College. He volunteers with the United Way, is on several nonprofit boards including Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce, Silver Creek Institute, Voom Foundation, Books for Africa, is the President of Association of Nigerian Engineers in Minnesota, and a former member of the Board of Trustees and currently the Legal Counsel to Akwa Ibom Association of Nigeria, Inc.

  Itoro Akpan-Iquot is a User Interface Engineer by profession and the President of Ace Web Solutions, a web development company. Itoro has over 9 years of experience developing various websites and applications for the U.S. Government, various U.S. states and counties, NGOs as well as the Akwa Ibom State (Nigeria) Government.

  Itoro has co-developed a website, "My Ibibio" aimed at promoting the Ibibio Culture and Akwa Ibom State in general. He has also published a book, "The Ibibio Culture - A Quick Reference for those in the diaspora" to the same effect.

  Itoro is the owner/publisher of Akwa Ibom News Online and publishes a daily RSS feed of Akwa Ibom News as well.

  Itoro is the publicity director of the AKISAN Atlanta Chapter as well as the Treasurer of the Atlanta Chapter of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio. In his spare time, Itoro enjoys playing soccer, reading (Biographies mostly) and travelling.

  A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (B.Sc. Computer Science), Itoro resides in Riverdale, Georgia with his wife and 2 daughters.

If You communicate with Us by e-mail, post messages to any of Our chat groups, web blogs, twitter sites, RSS, bulletin boards or forums, or otherwise complete online forms, or surveys, any information provided in such communication may be collected as Personal Information.
2. Use of Information Collected
   AKISAN uses Traffic Data to improve Our outreach and promotional efforts, to analyze Site usage, to improve Our content and product and service offerings and to customize Our site's content, layout, and services. We may also use Traffic Data to help diagnose problems with Our server, to manage Our Website and to enhance Our site based on the usage pattern data We receive. AKISAN may use Contact Data to send You information about AKISAN, its meetings, products and services, or promotional material. We may also ask You to provide Us voluntarily with additional information regarding Your personal or business interests, experience or requests which We may use to customize Our services for You. AKISAN may use the Contact Information to contact You when necessary or to advise you regarding upcoming meetings, opportunities, service offerings and communications relevant to Your use of the Site. AKISAN may use Your Demographic Data to customize and tailor Your experience on the Site, displaying content that AKISAN think You might be interested in and according to Your preferences.
3. Disclosure of Information To Third Parties
   AKISAN does NOT disclose Traffic Data to third parties.
4. User Choice Regarding Collection, Use and Distribution of Personal Information
   You may choose not to provide Us with any Personal Information. In such an event, You can still access and use much of the Site; however, You will not be able to access and use those portions of the Site that require Your Personal Information.
5. Confidentiality and Security of Personal Information
   Except as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy, AKISAN will keep Your Personal Information private and will not share it with third parties, unless such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a court order or other legal process; (b) protect Our rights or property; or (c) enforce Our Terms of Service. Your Personal Information is stored on secure servers that are not accessible by third parties.
   
   Whenever You voluntarily disclose personal information online, for example on message boards, through e-mail or in chat areas, that information can be collected and used by others. No data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. As a result, while We try to protect Your personal information, We cannot ensure or guarantee the security of any information You transmit to Us, and You do so at Your own risk.
6. Data Collection From Children
   AKISAN does not knowingly collect any information from children.
7. Other Limits to Your Privacy
   The Site contains links to other web sites. AKISAN is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites. AKISAN may also make chat rooms, forums, message boards, and news groups available to You. Please understand that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information. AKISAN has no control over its use and You should exercise caution when deciding to disclose Your Personal Information.
8. Updates and Changes to Privacy Policy
   AKISAN reserves the right, at any time and without notice, to add to, change, update or modify this Privacy Policy, simply by posting such change, update or modification on the Site. Any such change, update or modification will be effective immediately upon posting on the Site.
