AKISAN CONVENTION UPDATE
WELCOME TO AKISAN CONVENTION UPDATE
The AKISAN Convention is an annual gathering of Akwa Ibom people residing in the United States under the umbrella of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria Incorporated, USA (AKISAN USA). It serves as a platform for Akwa Ibomites from various ethnic groups to come together, celebrate their culture, foster unity, and discuss matters concerning their community both in the United States and back home in Nigeria.
Attending the AKISAN Convention offers numerous benefits for Akwa Ibomites. Firstly, it provides an opportunity for cultural celebration, allowing attendees to reconnect with their roots, traditions, and fellow community members. Secondly, it serves as a forum for networking and building connections with other Akwa Ibomites from across the United States and Nigeria, fostering a sense of belonging and unity within the diaspora community. Additionally, the convention often features educational seminars, workshops, and discussions on topics relevant to the community, providing valuable insights and knowledge to attendees. Moreover, it offers a platform for community engagement and participation in initiatives aimed at advancing the interests and welfare of Akwa Ibom people both in the United States and Nigeria.
A. W. A. R. E. is a broad based and diverse community of vibrant AKISAN women committed to creating and maintaining a safe space for all Akwa Ibom Indigenes to gather and participate in the growth and advancement of our people especially, our women and children.

“Inspire to Empower”
To mobilize and empower AKISAN women to re-stake our claim on community building, economic development and leadership in support of the mission of AKISAN. We also aim to recognize and celebrate the amazing contributions of Ibaan AKISAN.
- To take up projects that will reduce women’s vulnerability to domestic violence and health related issues
- To unite members towards values that will support AKISAN mission
- To foster an environment and maintain a forum that allows room for training, discussion, encouragement and promote women to share ideas and make greater impact within AKISAN
- To energize AKISAN young women leaders both in diaspora and at home to be champions on gender equality and empowerment
To mobilize women to:
- Participate in decision making, promote diversity and social systems change at all levels in AKISAN
- Work in collaboration to increase visibility of women leaders and their contributions to society
- Create interventions that empower, transform and strengthen the lives of disenfranchised women
- Mobilization: One on one (Individually, chapter and blasts)
- Print Materials: Info kit, brochure, flyer
- Internet: Website, blog, social media
- Special Projects: Cultural Heritage, Celebrating excellence, economic development
